CARIBBEAN LADY CAPTAINS DAY - 6TH JULY 2024

 It's Lady Captain's Day! ☀️⛳️

Get ready to set sail for a day of Caribbean fun! Did someone say snooker on the 5th and a dancing cricketer on the 1st? That's right, you were at the epic Lady Captain Caribbean-themed day!

For months, there were whispers of this legendary event. What would you wear? How outrageous could you get? Let's say the ladies showed up with their most fabulous island vibes.

The party started strong with Lady Captain Karen Collins and Natalie Jones cranking up the tunes in the clubhouse. Forget England rugby that morning! Saturday Night by Whigfield was blasting, and these two were dancing like there was no tomorrow.

Everywhere you looked, there were smiles and laughter. A lively steel band filled the air while Prosecco, OJ, and pastries awaited. Karen, a vision in tropical yellow and a stunning cerise pink hat, set the perfect tone. The Caribbean had officially invaded the golf course, and it was glorious!

Buckle up because the Caribbean fun took a hilarious turn! The ladies were all smiles, rocking their colourful outfits, channelling their inner cruise queens, and blasting some Bob Marley moves. They were definitely living their best island life... little did they know, the greenkeepers had a surprise up their sleeves!

Get ready for some green shenanigans:

2nd – Pin behind the left bunker inside the dip

5th – Pesky rake left over the 5th hole.

6th – pin placement on the right-hand edge

8th – copious amount of buckets

10th – bucket over the hole

12th – shorter hole with a putting challenge hosted by the Club Captain, Steve

13th – planks of wood

14th – a hosepipe snaked around

17th – 18 tee pegs surrounding the hole

The fun wasn't just for the ladies! Word of this epic Caribbean bash spread like wildfire, and the husbands were just as eager to join in. Hawaiian shirts were mandatory! We're talking Jonathan Jones and Richard Vaughan leading the charge as starters, while Pete and Malcolm Collins channelled their inner trolley dollies and zipped around the course serving drinks/chocolates and tending the watering hole on the 7th. Even Chris Harrison-Smith and Phil Hunt got in on the action in fancy tropical PJ’s, playing host at the halfway house.

Meanwhile, the ladies were busy with Sara Harris, patiently explaining the format while Maryon Cook kept the raffle sales rolling, all under the watchful eyes of a feathery friend - a parrot and a flamboyant flamingo.

The liquid refreshments on the 7th tee proved to be a welcome addition for Judy Cade. She bypassed the usual options, opting for a straight Gordon's and a hearty swig before attacking the 7th hole.

Now, Judy and gin had a special relationship. The refreshment turned into a round of girly giggles by the 8th, chatty-cade-come-carnage on the 9th, and a terribly tipsy 10th to a stunning nearest the pin on the 13th.

The party had to wait a bit! Everyone was glued to the screens as the England Football team battled it out in a nail-biting penalty shootout to secure their semi-final spot. There was even a quick dash to the BBQ between the final whistle and the shootout to keep everyone fuelled up for the celebrations.

Double Winners-Challenge Cup Results

A big shout out to our Challenge Cup winner for 2024, Helen Haynes, after a very tough match from one of our lowest handicap golfers in the club, Sandy Bushby.  Helen lived up to her reputation in matchplay and took it to the 21st hole.

And to our very own Lady Captain who found time to beat all those in the draw who were eligible for the Plate having been knocked out in the first round of the Cup.  How Karen found the time is a mystery. Commiserations go to Bev H who was the unlucky finalist standing in Karen's path to victory!

Well done to all who competed, singles is a challenge every time you play.
